Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, expressed a futuristic vision during the inauguration of the Aircraft Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) depot of AAR-Indamer at Mihan-SEZ. He shared his belief that, in the future, people will be commuting in drones capable of carrying four individuals from the city to the airport, according to a Times of India report.

Gadkari revealed ongoing experiments at his sugar factory to produce bio-aviation fuel, expressing confidence in its imminent development. The minister is exploring the possibility of creating bio-aviation fuel from broken rice, a potential boon for paddy growers in regions like Bhandara and Gondia, as reported by TOI.

Asserting the mandatory blending of bio-aviation fuel by 2026, Gadkari highlighted initiatives to make this sustainable fuel from ethanol. He praised the Indian Oil Corporation’s efforts in producing ethanol from rice straw following his encouragement.

Expressing optimism about the Aircraft MRO sector’s growth, Gadkari suggested that drone maintenance could emerge as a burgeoning sector. He sees the sector as an integral part of the future of transportation.

Reiterating the commitment to manufacturing Rafale fighter jets in Nagpur through Dassault Reliance Aviation Limited, Gadkari emphasized progress in the joint venture between Reliance and France Dassault. The management has assured the production of a small passenger jet by the end of 2022.

Gadkari announced major greenfield highway projects in Kerala, aiming to reduce travel time and costs significantly. He commended the cooperation of the Kerala government in land acquisition for these projects.

Gadkari emphasized his mission to eliminate petrol and diesel from India, drawing parallels to the Quit India movement. He stressed the importance of promoting clean and alternative fuels to combat air pollution and reduce India’s dependence on imported crude.
