Request to hon’ble PM Modi: Open a Women’s University in the name of Ahilya bai Holkar

The hon’ble Prime Minister
Govt of India
New Delhi

CC: Hon’ble minister Dr Ramesh Pokhriyal, cabinet sec. Principal sec Govt of India.

Respected sir

On the eve of Ahiya Bai holkar Jayanti pl find a small proposal from our side:-

Ahilya bai Holkar Jayanti: Kind request

Today is the 296th Ahilya Bai Holkar Jayanti. She was an exceptional lady and queen of Malwa Suba of the Peshwas of Pune. She was born to a farmer in Chondi in present day Ahmednagar and was picked by Subedar Malhar Rao Holkar as her daughter in law for his son Khanderao.

While Ahilya Bai is known to be a great philanthropist and restorer of Hindu temples across the country it may not be known how she fought the rituals, sanskars and conservative mind set of that time including from her mother in law to get education. She was of very high intellect and a champion of women’s cause and humanity.

While Indore is having a university in her name ” Devi Ahilya Bai Vishavidhyalaya” ( of which we are an alumni) there is no Women’s university in her name which is unfortunate and does not justify our tributes to her.

We from the Samanvaya team would like to request hon’ble PM Narendra Modi, Hon’ble minister Dr Ramesh Pokhriyal and all others to open a world class Women University and college in the name of Ahilya Bai Holkar near Indore may be in Maheshwar, the capitol of Holkar subedars.

This will be a good way to honour the lady who was ahead of her times and a true champion of women and Hindu cause. She was a statesman and showed exceptional administrative skills. The University must have a college of administration as well as a school and college for girls to prepare for army and high skilled professions.

WE once again would request to consider this proposal in the larger interest of nation, women and humanity for which Devi Ahilya stood.

This is for kind consideration with our humble request.

Sincere regards
DR Asheesh Shah
New Delhi.
