Who Is Prakash Gupta, India’s First Consul-General In Seattle?
Prakash Gupta is 2002-batch IFS officer, who handles United Nation affairs in Ministry of External Affairs. He is currently the Joint Secretary, UN (Political) at MEA. His appointment as the first consul general in Seattle will finally end the long wait for opening consulate in the US Pacific Northwest. In the past, Gupta has served as the consul general in Shanghai and the deputy chief of mission in Indonesia.

An official announcement of opening consulate in Seattle is expected during the 2+2 India-US ministerial dialogue next week. Later this month, Gupta is expected to travel to Seattle to open the consulate.

A techno hub with a huge population of Indian citizens and multinational companies, Seattle, to have an Indian consulate was was announced during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the US in June. This comes as a part of India’s move to open consulates in two new US cities, alongside US planning to open consulates in Bengaluru and Ahmedabad. With this, Seattle will be the sixth US city to have an Indian consulate after New York, San Francisco, Houston, Chicago and Atlanta.
